| 2 | みそぎ川瀬瀬にいださんなで物を身にそふ影とたれか頼まん | To float downstream afresh at each atonement,
And yet to have forever at your side? |
| 3 | しめ結ひし小萩がうへもまよはぬにいかなる露にうつる下葉ぞ | Of the plighted hagi, the upper leaves seem quiet.
What will have caused a change in the underleaves? |
| 4 | 宮城野の小萩がもとと知らませば露も心をわかずぞあらまし | Had I known it to be of the meadow of Miyagi.
With the fragile hagi I would have kept my faith. |
| 5 | ひたふるにうれしからまし世の中にあらぬ所と思はましかば | If I could think it a place apart from the world,
In happy procession then might pass the days. |
| 6 | 浮世にはあらぬ所をもとめても君がさかりを見るよしもがな | Though it be in a house apart from this gloomy
world, I pray that the best may yet be mine to see. |
